Share Files

Shazzle allows you to easily form and collaborate with groups and share big files and content of any size. You can even share files with people not using the Shazzle application.

Share with people not using Shazzle

The thing that differentiates Shazzle from other file-sharing programs is that you don’t have to be a member to access your friends’ content.

To share files with your friends outside Shazzle, click the “Mail” button at the top of the screen to switch to the Mail view.

The Mail view shows all of the message threads that you send or recieve including messages you send to users outside of Shazzle.

Sending a New Message

There are several simple steps to creating a new message.

  1. Click the “New Message” toolbar button above the message list

  2. Specify the people you want to share with in the To field. You can type in comma separated Shazzle user names or your friends’ email addresses. If you have contacts, you can click on the “To:” button to select contacts (see also: Importing Contacts).

  3. Enter a subject for your message (this might help distinguish your message from spam)
  4. Type a message in the message body text box
  5. Attach files. Click on the “File Attachments” tab in the dialog and then click on the”Add Files…” button to select files from your computer.

  6. Optionally add a name and description for each file.

  7. Click the “Send” button. Shazzle users on the recipient list will get the message in both Shazzle and in their email client. Non-Shazzle users will get an email message with a link to view the files on the web.

Share with my Shazzle Friends

Sharing files with friends has never been easier. To share files with your Shazzle friends, follow these steps:

  1. click on “My Groups” at the top left of your screen.

  2. Select your personal group in the Group list on the left. Your personal group name is your Shazzle username.

  3. Select a folder that corresponds to the type of file you want to share. Shazzle lets you share videos, documents, photos and music. You can share anything that doesn’t fit into one of those four categories in the Miscellaneous folder.Technically, you can put any file type into any of the folders but it will not be as well organized (See also: Creating a New Folder).

  4. Add files to the folder. You can add files by either clicking on the “Upload” button in the file list toolbar, or you can drag and drop them from your desktop into the folder’s file list on the right.

  5. Wait for the file(s) to upload before exiting. You will see an upload indicator for the file uploading.

After files are added to the folder all members of the group can see the files in the folder’s file listing. If your friends are not already members of your group, then invite them to join (See also: Inviting Others to your Group).

Share with a Shazzle Group

You can share files with any group that you are a member of (See also: Joining a Group, Finding a Group). To share files with another group, follow these steps:

  1. Click on “My Groups” at the top left of your screen (picture) and select the group you want to share with in the Groups list on the left.
  2. Select the folder that corresponds to the type of file you want to share. Shazzle lets you share videos, documents, photos and music, plus you can share anything else that doesn’t fit into one of those four categories in the “miscellaneous” file.
  3. You can drag and drop them right from your desktop into the white area that is dominating the right part of your screen. If you prefer, you can also search your computer for files to share by clicking the upload button just above all that white space, near the top center of your screen (picture).
  4. Wait for the file(s) to upload before exiting. You will see an upload indicator for the file uploading.

Now all members of the group can see the files that you uploaded.
