Message Board

Every group (with the exception of private groups with content hidden from members) has a message board. The message board is the same thing as a forum. Members of the group can create topics and reply to other members’ posts. The message board makes it easy to communicate with other members.

View Message Board Topics

When you view the message board, you will see a list of message board topics. You can click on any of the topics to view the posts for that topic. To view the list of topics, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the “My Groups” button in the main toolbar.
  2. Select the group that you wish to view message board topics for.
  3. Once the group is selected, select “Message Board” in the “Selected Community’s Folders” list on the bottom right.
  4. The list of topics for the group will show on the right.
  5. Click on any topic in the list to view the posts on that topic.

Determine if there are Unread Messages

From the Message Board topic list, you can see all topics for a group (See also: View Message Board Topics).
When there are unread messages in a topic, you will see the topic turn red. There is an unread count in the table to display how many new posts have been added since your last visit to the topic.

    Any topics in the Message Board topic list with unread posts will be shaded red.

    If you click on a topic with unread posts, the posts will be shaded a lighter color blue so that you can see which ones are new.

Get Back to the Topic List

When you are viewing the posts for a topic, you can click the “Back” button to return to the topic list.

Create a New Message Board Topic

You can create a new topic for the message board from either the Message Board topic list (See also: View Message Board Topics).

  1. Click on the “New Topic” button
  2. The New Topic dialog will open. Provide a subject and body and click ok.
  3. After clicking ok, the topic will be created and the message board will open the topic.

Reply to a Message Board Topic

To reply to a topic, follow these steps once you are viewing the posts for a topic.

  1. Once you are viewing a topic’s posts, click on the “Reply to Topic” toolbar button to post a reply.
  2. Type your reply and click the “OK” button. Your reply will be posted immediately to the bottom of the posts.

Reply to a New Message Board Topic

If you want to reply to a specific post that you are reading and have the text quoted, use the following steps:

  1. Click on the reply button beneath the post.
  2. Fill out the reply message and click the “OK” button.
  3. Your reply will display at the bottom of the posts and will include the quoted text.

Delete a Post or Reply

Sometimes you will post something and change your mind later. Luckily a post or reply can be deleted by the person who posted it. It can also be deleted by the group owner for moderation. Here is how to delete a post or reply:

    View the posts for a topic. Beneath the post that you would like to delete, there is a “Delete Post” link. Click on it to delete the post. A confirmation dialog will ask you if you are sure you want to delete it. After you click “Yes”, the post will be deleted.

Delete a Topic

If an entire topic needs to be deleted from the Message Board, there are two different ways to do it.

  1. One way to delete the topic is from the view of the topic. Click on the “Delete Topic” toolbar button. A confirmation dialog will ask you if you are sure you want to delete it. After you click “Yes”, the entire topic and all posts will be deleted.
  2. Another way to delete a topic is from the Message Board topic list. In the list, each topic has a “Delete Topic” button. Click on the button for a topic to delete it.A confirmation dialog will ask you if you are sure you want to delete it. After you click “Yes”, the entire topic and all posts will be deleted.
