Buddies and Chat

In Shazzle, you can mark other Shazzle members as your buddy. Adding buddies makes it easier to chat and also makes it easier to send your friends a Shazzle Mail message since you will be able to choose from your buddy list when addressing the message.


View Buddy List

To view your buddy list, select the “Buddy List” menu item from the “View” menu. The chat and buddy panel will open on the right side of Shazzle. Your buddy list is at the bottom of the right panel.





To hide the buddy list, click the “Hide” link at the top right.

Add a Buddy

If you know the name of the Shazzle member you want to add to your buddy list (See also: Search for People), there are a few simple steps to adding a buddy:

  1. Select the “Buddy List” menu item from the “View” menu. The chat and buddy panel will open on the right side of Shazzle.
  2. Click the “Add…” button.





  3. When the dialog opens, fill in the Shazzle member’s name. You can also type a message to go with the buddy invitation.





  4. Click ok. You will see a confirmation dialog that the buddy invitation was sent. A popup window will show to the member you invited. Once that member accepts the buddy invitation, you will see that member in your buddy list.

Remove a Buddy

Follow these steps to remove a buddy from your buddy list:

  1. If the buddy list is not open, select the “Buddy List” menu item from the “View” menu. The chat and buddy panel will open on the right side of Shazzle.
  2. Click on the buddy that you want to remove to select it.
  3. Click the “Remove Buddy” button.

Chat with a Buddy

You can chat with any buddy in your list that is online. The blue Shazzle bolt icon indicates that the Shazzle buddy is online and available. Follow these steps to initiate a chat session:

  1. If the buddy list is not open, select the “Buddy List” menu item from the “View” menu. The chat and buddy panel will open on the right side of Shazzle.
  2. Double-click on the buddy you want to chat with (or select the buddy and click the “Chat…” button).





  3. The chat window will open. You can type and hit the ENTER key, or click the “Send” button and the buddy’s chat window will open with your message. Any responses from the buddy will display in the same window.





Chat with a Group

In addition to chatting with Buddies, you can also chat with an entire group.

  1. Click on the “My Groups” button in the toolbar





  2. In the Group list, select the group that you want to chat with.
  3. If the Members list is not displayed on the right-bottom side of Shazzle, click “Members” in the “Selected Group’s Folders” list at the bottom left.
  4. Click the “Chat with Group” button above the Member’s List.





  5. The group chat window will open. You can type and hit the ENTER key, or click the “Send” button and the all members of the group will see a chat window will open with your message. Any responses from group members will display in the same window. Note that all group members are displayed on the right side of the chat dialog. You can double-click on any member in the chat dialog group list to start a private chat session with that member.





Set Status

There are several locations within Shazzle that your status is visible to other members: the Group Member list, the Group Chat dialog member list. and the Buddy list. Your status is an indicator of whether you are available to chat.

You can set your status directly from the Group Chat dialog or from the “Set Status” menuitem on the “File” menu.





Once you open the dialog, select the “Away” radio button and enter a status. Click ok to save.





After your status is set, the Shazzle bolt icon turns orange to indicate that you are away or busy and displays your status (either next to the bolt icon, or as a tooltip).
